Hasil gambar tidak jelas ketika diperbesar atau diperkecil, ukuran dari file yang dihasilkan besar, dan kualitas gambar yang sangat tergantung dari banyak dikitnya pixel. Hal tersebut merupakan kelemahan dari grafis yang berbasis bitmap.
Pada blog sebelumnya kita telah membahas tentang mengkonversi bitmap ke vektor. Sekarang, kita akan membahas kapan bitmap atau vektor digunakan. Banyak apilkasi yang bisa kita gunakan dalam grafis bitmap, salah satunya yaitu adobe photoshop. Dengan menggunakan adobe photoshop banyak format yang sering kita, seperti BMP, JPG, GIF, atau pun PNG. Tergantung keinginan kita memakai yang mana sesuai kebutuhan.
Aplikasi yang biasa dipakai pada bitmap yaitu Adobe Photoshop dengan format :
- BMP, dapat kita gunakan sebagai gambar dekstop di windows kita, karena ukurannya yang lebih besar.
- JPG, dengan asal ukuran gambar yang kecil itulah maka file jpg ini biasa digunakan untuk foto wajah ataupun pemandangan.
- GIF, file dengan format ini mempunyai jumlah warna yang sedikir.Biasanya format ini digunakan pada animasi – animasi sederhana.
Untuk vektor karena ukuran dan sifatnya yang relatif kecil dan fleksibel. Maka kita dapat menggunakan grafis berbasis vektor ini untuk suatu logo perusahaan, brosur, kartu nama, atau apapun yang lainnya yang masih banyak lagi. Vektor banyak digunakan karena dapat dengan mudah mengatur – ngatur desainnya sesuai dengan kebutuhan. Kita dapat menggunakan aplikasai CDR (CorelDraw) jika kita ingin memakai grafis berbasis vektor, dengan ukuran yang tidak terlalu besar seperti dengan grafis berbasis bitmap.
